Ensure Equal Housing Opportunity For Everyone

The U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) recently awarded the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center (MVFHC) with $450,000 in grants. According to the MVFHC website, their goal is to “eliminate housing discrimination and ensure equal housing opportunity for all people in our region.” The organization attempts to eliminate discrimination by offering education, identifying fair housing barriers, working with the government to improve laws and assisting people who have experienced housing discrimination. Both grants were awarded to MVFHC under the Fair Housing Initiatives Program of HUD.

Private Enforcement Initiative

The Private Enforcement Initiative for $325,000 will help MVFHC support the HomeOwnership Center of Greater Dayton and fund the activities for enforcement and complaints. These activities include investigating discrimination allegations and violations, enforcing equal opportunity and fair lending laws, and providing education and assistance to clients and victims of discrimination.

Education & Outreach Initiative

The Education and Outreach Initiative for $125,000 allows MVFHC to continue providing education to the public and lending professionals. The organization provides the public on their rights under the Fair Housing Act and other fair housing and far lending laws. The organization plans to provide education through the use of brochures, public service announcements, broadcast programs, certified curricula, lending workshops and community meetings.
