Ohio’s taxable base is the assessed value of land and buildings. Assessed value is 35% of retail market value, except for certain agricultural land. County auditors in the state of Ohio must reappraise all real estate every six years. A homestead exemption is available to the homesteads of qualified homeowners who are either at least 65 years old, permanently and totally disabled, or at least 59 years of age and the surviving spouse of a deceased taxpayer who had previously received the exemption.

Property Tax Homestead Exemption
The Ohio Department of Taxation offers an exemption to all eligible senior citizens or completely disabled homeowners, regardless of income, the opportunity to shield up to $25,000 of the market value of their homestead from property taxation. This means a home valued at $100,000 will generally be taxed as if it was valued at $75,000. On average, those senior citizens and disabled persons that qualify are saving $400 per year. Pay Ohio Property Taxes Online (Ohio ePayment)
The State of Ohio in cooperation with Official Payments Corporation now offers a secure online application that allows you to pay your taxes either by credit card or electronic check. The Ohio ePayment system also provides you the flexibility to post-date an electronic check, so the amount of your payment is NOT deducted from your checking account until the official due date of your taxes.
